At present there are four dogs-invalids in a quarantine place of the municipal service “Animals in the city” which is responsible for catching stray dogs in some districts of Donetsk. Now they are threatened being put to sleep, therefore we appeal to you for help, because, unfortunately, such dogs turn to be unnecessary to anybody in Ukraine and they practically don`t have any chance to find their new homes within the country.

Martha (one-and-a-half-year-old, 32 centimetres in height) is an invalid with a high amputation of her left foreleg. We don`t know the reason for that. She has been here since July, 2010. She avoided being put to sleep by a miracle, the thing is that hearts of the medical staff jumped. Martha had such a gaze as if she begged for mercy. It happened that Martha was an only dog-invalid who stayed alive since summer, 2010. But now she is under the threat again. Martha is very nice and good-natured, unobtrusive. She will be a good companion for a person who leads a quiet life.

Eva (six-month-old, 40 centimetres in height). When she was a puppy, she was hit by a car and her right rear leg lost its support-locomotion function. Nevertheless, it doesn`t prevent Eva from being an active and energetic girlie, what is more she has an amazing thirst for life. This dog is very curious, sociable and people- oriented.

Silvy (two-year-old, 48 centimetres in height) doesn`t have a part of her left rear leg. We have no information about the reason of her trauma but when a dogcatcher was pulling her in a hinge her injured leg started bleeding, leaving a red trace on the snow. She came to us from the municipal service “Kirovets” which also does work of catching stray dogs in one of the districts of Donetsk. That service carries stray dogs to “Animals in the city” once in ten days. Recently we got to know that dogs in “Kirovets” live in a big cage without water and food during those ten days. Dogs don`t have even a doghouse where they could hide in bad weather. The cage is open to winds, rains and snow. There are dead dogs with living ones who lose their senses because of hunger and cold. The staff of the municipal service “Kirovets” admits that only those dogs survive that were caught the day before the arrival of the car of”Animals in the city”. The rest of them starve to death.
No one knows how many days Silvy stayed in that so-called concentration camp. She survived, thank God. But she became emaciated. At present we try to fatten her up. The doggie is not aggressive but very fearful and she distrusts people. It will take much time to deserve her trust. It`s a pity but we don`t have time. We hope that we`ll find a person who shows Silvy that she deserves care and kindness.

Lucy (three-year-old, 35 centimetres in height). The volunteers of the municipal service “Animals in the city” saved her from suffocation. When she was brought to the municipal refuge, one of the dogcatchers was suffocating her until our volunteers snatched her out of his hands. After that case Lucy`s eye came out and we had to remove it . It is naturally enough that the doggie doesn`t confide in people anymore. She is afraid of everything and everybody and unfortunately she is offended by all her neighbours in the kennel.

Our theme concerning dogs-invalids has been replenished by two girls: Doris and Mishka.
Doris (two-year-old, 50 centimetres in height) has a double injury of her right foreleg. There is an elbow joint dislocated from the articular bursa, as this trauma is old it is impossible to set it, and a distal radius fracture. No one knows the reason of that trauma, probably, it was a road accident or beating up because the dog is rather sluggish with deferred reaction. She is suspicious of anybody but she is not aggressive, on the contrary, Doris is well-disposed towards people.

Mishka (one-and-a-half-year-old, 38 centimetres in height). Her right foreleg is traumatized, old fracture of the paw, bones knitted incorrectly, but sometimes she uses this leg. Mishka is a good-natured dog, she can`t stand up for herself, so she is offended in the open-air cage. Her neighbours of the kennel bit her nose and tore it during the last fight.
